From: dbasedog I am hitting the same brick wall. As an adoptee, my search for my birthmother ended in 1991 however, I have never been able to locate my birthfather, Curtis Gene Payton. His father is Cree and I am trying to research the band but he supposedly lived app. Louisville, KY, and I understand at some point in time, tribes were 'run out' of Kentucky in that area.
I have known that my maternal birthgrandmother is Cherokee but I did not find out until yesterday (after contacting Children's Home Society of North Carolina) my paternal heritage.
As strange as it might seem to some, inside I have always known.
I am 44 yrs. old BD 02.11.59 and my birthfather was supposedly at Ft. Bragg, NC, around 1958 and he is app. 69 yrs. old at this time.
Because I was adopted by a white, suburbanite family and have always felt 'different' - I would like to know my heritage and relatives.
